Citizenship.

In the United States of America, there are 3 levels of Government: Local, State, and Federal.

You are a citizen of a city and/or county, a state, and the United States of America.

You pay taxes at all levels of government.

You interact with each level of government at least on a semi-regular basis.

Citizenship mean's voting or not voting in primaries and elections.

Citizenship mean's reading, listening, and being active in some form of public service.

Citizenship mean's joining the military for a period of time.

Citizenship mean's helping someone less fortunate than you to succeed, but not offering them a welfare check.

Citizenship mean's making some contribution to the larger system of your nation.

Sovereignty.

A nation as such has the right to maintain its independence and security from all threats foreign and domestic.

A nation cannot invade another country and strip it of its sovereignty.

A government cannot sacrifice a part of its sovereignty even if it appears to be beneficial to its own citizenry (NAFTA).

A government must be run by elected officials at all times because they answer to the voters.

A nation's sovereignty can be maintained through security agreements as long as do not tread on sovereignty (NATO).

Sovereignty is about the freedom of individual nations to compete economically, socially, and materially without causing war or bloodshed.

International Organizations do not have the right to impose their will on member nations, unless a member commits a horrendous act (The Kuwait War).

International Organizations cannot enforce environmental standard on member states, unless the citizens of that member nation agree to it.

Sovereignty says that elected officials in a world as a diverse and anarchial as ours have the last say on international law rather than diplomats or bureaucrats.

Sovereignty was the issue of the American Revolution, French Revolution, Germany under Bismarck, the Russian Revolution, and every Revolution since then.

Sovereignty guarantees a nation's citizens the right to decide their own affairs internally and externally.

Natural Rights: The Continuation of Political Philosophy

A Natural Right is the concept of a universal right inherent in the nature of living beings, one that is not contigent upon laws or beliefs.

Natural Rights exist even if there is no enforcement by the government or society.

Philosophy handles the disconnect.

Natural Rights are the rights of the individual beyond government or international organizations.

They include in a minimal and original sense life, liberty, and the pursuit of property.

Natural Rights override obligations.

The concept of natural rights is one of the main inspirations for the Declaration of Independence.

Critics call it an is-ought problem.

Thomas Paine, John Locke, and several other writers are the key proponents of this concept.

Natural Rights are not organized by laws or governments or societies, but they do transcend normal laws.

What to do about Credit Card Debt?

There are many choices: pay off a little at a time, get a 3rd Party Administrator, or file for Chapter 7.

Chapter 7 is a draconian move that eliminates most of your debt, while leaving certain amounts to pay off plus you have a black mark on your credit record for several years.

You could decide to ignore the bank and see your credit rating to a low that you will never recover from.

You could go to a 501(C) Nonprofit Corporation to manage the payments to the Credit Card Companies.

You could pay a little each month on your own, but interest rates would prevent you from ever paying it off.

You could apply for a credit card that has a large credit line and transfer all of your balances onto that card so you have one payment each month, but you would need to close out all of your other accounts.

You could take out a personal loan to pay off your credit cards and leave yourself with one payment each month.

You could take out a second mortgage to payoff credit cards.

You could refinance your car to pay off outstanding credit card balances.

The American Population has a total of 60% of its membership in and over their heads in credit card debt.

That means the banks have to be careful they do not make customers too mad in renegotiating terms of interest rates and payment of the principle.

My investment income has run out and I have gone back to my 3rd Party Administrator.  Consolidated Credit Counseling Incorporated.

Its at the point, that I have 3 prior cards paid off, but I have four current cards that are maxed out and need to be renegotiated.

I look like something of a hypocrite going back to these people, but I looked for other ways to consolidate my credit card bills with no success.

In essence, if I could get a personal loan then I would use that money to pay off my credit cards, but banks look at me as a credit risk rather than an honest customer trying to stay above water.

Marriage.

Marriage is one of the oldest institutions of civilization.

Its operative throughout all societies around the world.

It has connections through government, philosophy, religion, family, history, and a whole range of other subjects.

It has been noted since ancient times as a bond between one man and one woman.

It has been a source of enormous strength for nations throughout history.

Deviant Behavior has caused no end of consternation for nations.

Do you regulate behavior?

Do you open the pandora's box of other types of relationships being codified in law?

How do you approach the issue?

I have known relationships that were codified in law under the flag of a lie by the male.

Meaning, he married the female because he did not want to be alone in his new life.

What is compatibility?

Do you marry the most beautiful member of the opposite sex or do you go for someone who is best all around.

That means you go with someone who is your equal, but somewhat different.

Do you go for electricity or stability?

Do you want someone who is a rock or engaged in constant change?

Do you go for brains or beauty?

Do you go for money or a relationship?

Do you live in Los Angeles or Billings, Montana?

Do you pay an exorbiant money for a house or car or do you go with the practical?

Do you go for someone who thinks like you or who is totally opposite from you?

Do you go for colors or grey?

There's a whole range of issues to consider.

Do you discuss politics, religion, sex, and other issues?

Do you date in High School?

Do you take time to develop a relationship?

Do you go to the movies, the library, book store, cafes, or some other form of entertainment?

Do you get remarried a 3rd and 4th Time?

Do you like blondes, brunettes, redheads, or black hair members of the opposite gender?

Do you have a fixation on one type of female?

Do you have a fixation on the man's bank account?

Do you read mens magazines or look at the pictures?

Do you deny your husband the right to study these magazines even though your womens magazines are just as graphic?

What are the new relationships on the Horizon?

Contemporary Women want relationships and not party animals.

Men want more on the domestic side from what I can see and I want.

Why are men prone to obsess about women?  That includes me.

Why do women make us men jump through hoops over every last detail?

Is it better to have a long term relationship without being legalized through marriage.

Marriage has its own complexities.

Marriages are of one of 4 types:  50/50, husband dominate, wife dominate, and Interdependency.

50/50 marriages are highly unstable and usually end in divorce.

Husband dominate marriages are 1950s.

Wife dominate marriages are in vogue.

Interdependent means there defined roles, but its like more 60/40 depending on the issue.

Marriage has its benefits.  You have someone to share life with through all its trials and tribulations.

You have children.

You have the certainty that your partner might know how to do something that you do not how to do.

Its a bunch of things.

However, stability is no longer the condition of our marriages.

Everybody is pursuing their own self interest.

Liberal Families are aborting themselves out of existence.

Conservative families might have six kids.

The Great Depression caused economic hardship for people.

The Vietnam War caused Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

The Civil Rights Revolution empowered all minority groups with alcohol.

The Feminist Revolution caused massive identity confusion.

The Reagan Revolution restored some of the balance.

Clinton took all of these forces to their illogical conclusion in the impeachment over lying about an affair.

Bush II projected confidence that masked arrogance.

Dead Certain that appeals to some people, but angers twice as many people.

People have different ways of doing things and no one way fits all types of people.

In essence, marriage seems in most peoples minds to be a continuation of the date and maybe cohabitation, but instead we are not trained for the complexities or intimacies of marriage.

Principles of Politics.

What is a Principle of Politics?

For Reagan, it was tax reform and a strong national defense.

For Nixon, it was international relations.  Or more importantly, he knew the principles of international relations.

Should you have a lot of principles in politics?  People who have a lot of positions get stuck in the morass of detail.  Those who know one or two things may limit themselves in terms of a broad based approach.

At certain times, a narrow approach is necessary, while at other times a broad based approach is necessary.

Depending on your style, you do need to deal with other players to complete your agenda as well as other players agenda.

George W. Bush does not want to deal with an issue other than terror.

Its like his job is to deal with Iraq and Terror only, while the rest of the federal government's agenda falls by the wayside.

At least that's what I see from where I sit.

In essence, a Calvin Coolidge approach to everything.  Laissez-faire to the extreme.

Knowledge Manager.

The word that defines Knowledge Manager is hypermnesia.  It means the complete and total recall of all past events, ideas, concepts, and life experiences you might have.

I acquired it through memorization or learning through rote.

It did not include public education, which works against a lot of this type of thinking.

If you read a book you enjoy over and over again you can acquire the skill.

If you vary what you read then the skill is honed by broad based experience.

If you watch the same movie 10 times you can begin to visualize in your mind the various scenes and words.

Gradually, your memory becomes developed in such a way that you can remember facts all over life.

Some people have a photographic memory or some people can turn mental images into art work.

Some people can understand gambling in casinoes to the point that their kicked out because they know the games better than the gamemaster.

People have this skilled for certain fields.  I know Human Resources, Military, Football, and Political Science, but I do not know anything about other areas of life.

In essence, a Knowledge Manager can developed this skill in time by studying the same issue over and over in times of no stress and it works only if you like what your doing.

I did not like Public Education, so my knowledge of that era in my life on balance is highly negative.

Round 1: McCain and Barry Obama

McCain has a plan to bring down Obama.

Did he accomplish his goals for the week?

Barry's poll numbers started to collapse so McCain did something right.

In any war, you start by weaking your opponent through air strikes, while looking for weakness.

If Barry is kept off balance, offers tepid ideas, has his speeches disrupted, remains confused, and has people start to resign then you can just grind him down in terms of popularity.

A formidable campaigner that man Barry, but he does not have the midas touch.

In essence, McCain needs to stick with his guns so that Barry does not get any traction from now to election day.

Inflation.

Food and Oil continue their price rise.

We may never know the real reason for the pain were feeling right now.

Food exports are up at this moment because the value of the dollar is down.

Oil imports are up in terms of price at this moment because the value of the dollar is down.

Interesting, economists would call this an exchange rate problem.

Let's see, there's an election coming in six months.  I bet the prices will fall the closer we get to the election.

The dollar's value will go up at the appropriate time to balance out the imbalances in our economy.

In essence, it is an exchange rate problem that probably cannot be solved in the short run.

Public Opinion Polls for President.

Obama has lost 3 points in less than a week.

Interesting.  A good primary candidate, but maybe a lousy general election candidate.

Someone who wants to be known as a great leader, but might end up as a TV Icon.

Reagan was a great leader, but Kennedy was a great Icon.

Barry appears to be a man of the moment rather than a man for all seasons.

If Barry is losing momentum in the polls already then McCain needs to hold the line and let Barry self-destruct on his own.

Barry is a man who transcended or defied public opinion for a short time.

If he gets caught in a web of rumor, innuedoes, lies, and contradictions then his political support will collapse.

In essence, if Barry sticks to themes then he's ok.  If it becomes the devil is in the details then he should self-destruct and his base of support among more practical voters will shift to McCain, Nader, and/or Barr.

Tim Russert.

Sam Donaldson wrote in his book Hold on Mr. President, that TV Journalism is defined by those who are above the line because of who they are and those below the line who are defined by what they do.

David Brinkley was above the line.  He was almost a media icon.  This Week with David Brinkley would have been better know as David Brinkley.  He had that much influence.

Sam Donaldson was below the line and defined by his journalistic style.

Tim Russert falls above the line in that Meet the Press should have been called Tim Russert.

A TV Icon.

If you want to define him in clearer terms then you say he was a Lawyer/Political Hack/Journalist.

The issue for me is how was he off camera in terms of his real persona.

Those of us who watch television will never know because it appears he did not have many enemies.

Ping Pong Diplomacy.

Small things lead to big things.

Don't sweat the small stuff.

China and America.

It makes sense to look at Ping Pong Diplomacy because it opened the door to so much else that was good and bad.

We needed Communist China in terms of a military alliance against the former Soviet Union.

They needed us to counterbalance the former Soviet Union.

We do not need them in terms as a counterweight to the Russian Federation anymore.

I think we should regard them as what one commentator called a Strategic Competitor.

They have always pursued their national interest, while our leaders chase two bit dictators and skirts.

In essence, ping pong diplomacy was for another era.  We need to learn to play 3 dimensional chess with them.

Marshall Plan for the Middle East

Bush wants to build up the Middle East Economically through an infusion of hundreds of billions of dollars of Western Money.

He likens it to Western Europe after WW II.

That makes sense if you follow his logic.

It does not make sense when you look at the facts.

Middle Eastern Nations are awash in oil money so if they want to build up their economies that their business.

Middle Eastern Terrorist Groups would bomb any factories we would build.

Bush is a man of the Gospels who believes it is a sacred duty to give freely of yourself.

He has poured how much of our money and not his into Iraq.

He's got his personal interest intertwined with our national interest.  He thinks he represents both.

Western Nations have not put much in terms of reconstruction money into Iraq for their own reasons.

The United States is deep in debt to begin with so he is not in any position to ask for more money.

If I was a member of Congress, I would file a bill restricting money flows into Iraq, until after January 21, 2009.

Its better to wait Bush's term out on this point by blocking him instead of confronting him.

Christian Charity is a personal thing rather than a government thing.

Presidential Debates

If I was McCain, I would stick to my guns on the townhall debate format.

If I am not mistaken, Democrat President Candidates usually start out ahead in the election campaign.

For some mysterious reason, the public likes to flirt with Liberals, but like's to elect Republicans.

I do not know if this is a cardinal rule or if its merely happenstance.

If Gerald Ford had another week, he could have won the 1976 election.

The Public was indifferent to Ford, but at the late stage of that campaign they suddenly realized or decided Carter was not fit to command.

Bill Clinton was lauded for his management of the economy, but by every other measure people did not see him as a strong leader.

His two opponents in the Republican Camp were weaker than the candidates the Republicans usually put forward.

The terrain at the Presidential Level seems to favor Republicans starting with Eisenhower in 1952.

In 2008, McCain is a veteran on a lot of issues good and bad where Barry is a flash in the pan.

McCain is a low key Mario Cuomo whereas Obama is Eugene McCarthy (Maybe).

McCain's experience and apparent youth give him an edge on Barry's youth and inexperience.

McCain needs to develop a limited and directed outward humor.

Reagan was not a nice guy because he used humor that was directed at his opponents weak points.

Humor at your opponents expense.

I say McCain needs to turn up the heat on Barry, while waiting him out in terms of townhalls.

Libertarian Republican #278

George W. Bush.

He says today he has no regrets about Iraq.

I know it must not register in his mind the cost of this silly conflict.

Reagan was warlike in his rhetoric, but he never invaded a major country or stayed the course long after its utility had ended.

I read about a year ago that Bush intended to stay in Iraq, until the end of his administration.

He has said, "I will perservere".  To him that mean's sticking to his goal, until completion.  In his case, he appears to have analytical skills deficiencies that limit his mind in recognizing when to cut losses or when an issue is resolved.

I wonder if he sees our military fighting a 30 year ongoing war with the Jihadists or if he consider's it a twilight struggle.

He still has not given up on attacking Iran or wrecking their economy.

How can a man be  so strong on goal setting, but so weak on intrapersonal intelligence.
