OBAMA AND THE RADICALS.
In Gore Vidal's Licoln, it ended several years after Lincoln's death and the subject of Andrew Johnson and the Anti-Slavery Republicans came up.
One of Lincoln's former aides commented that only Mr. Lincoln could control the Radicals in Congress.
Meaning, Lincoln would throw a bone to the radicals on ocassion to keep them happy.
The minority has the music and the majority has the votes.
The minority in this case are the Liberals who are more vocal than the moderates who have the votes as the majority.
Obama will say that I have no policy and I do not control events, but events control me.
This phenomenon can be found in Louis Napoleon in France in the 1850s.
Pit one faction against another faction, while retaining true power for yourself.
Its the illusion of saying one thing to one crowd and another thing to another crowd.
Tell somebody in Miami, Florida one thing and then go to Seattle, Washington and tell that crowd something else.
In essence, do what you have to win and never mind the facts.
