Citizenship.
In the United States of America, there are 3 levels of Government: Local, State, and Federal.
You are a citizen of a city and/or county, a state, and the United States of America.
You pay taxes at all levels of government.
You interact with each level of government at least on a semi-regular basis.
Citizenship mean's voting or not voting in primaries and elections.
Citizenship mean's reading, listening, and being active in some form of public service.
Citizenship mean's joining the military for a period of time.
Citizenship mean's helping someone less fortunate than you to succeed, but not offering them a welfare check.
Citizenship mean's making some contribution to the larger system of your nation.
