Libertarian Republican #287

Principles of Politics.

What is a Principle of Politics?

For Reagan, it was tax reform and a strong national defense.

For Nixon, it was international relations.  Or more importantly, he knew the principles of international relations.

Should you have a lot of principles in politics?  People who have a lot of positions get stuck in the morass of detail.  Those who know one or two things may limit themselves in terms of a broad based approach.

At certain times, a narrow approach is necessary, while at other times a broad based approach is necessary.

Depending on your style, you do need to deal with other players to complete your agenda as well as other players agenda.

George W. Bush does not want to deal with an issue other than terror.

Its like his job is to deal with Iraq and Terror only, while the rest of the federal government's agenda falls by the wayside.

At least that's what I see from where I sit.

In essence, a Calvin Coolidge approach to everything.  Laissez-faire to the extreme.
