Tim Russert.
Sam Donaldson wrote in his book Hold on Mr. President, that TV Journalism is defined by those who are above the line because of who they are and those below the line who are defined by what they do.
David Brinkley was above the line. He was almost a media icon. This Week with David Brinkley would have been better know as David Brinkley. He had that much influence.
Sam Donaldson was below the line and defined by his journalistic style.
Tim Russert falls above the line in that Meet the Press should have been called Tim Russert.
A TV Icon.
If you want to define him in clearer terms then you say he was a Lawyer/Political Hack/Journalist.
The issue for me is how was he off camera in terms of his real persona.
Those of us who watch television will never know because it appears he did not have many enemies.
