John McCain gave a foreign policy speech today.
Hardline on Iraq, push Russia away, and establish a League of Democracies.
I maintain Iraq is an unsolvable probem, but everyone is hellbent on winning it.
The Russians are different. No longer Communist, Not yet Capitalist/Democracy.
Russia is a problem for the right wing of the Republican Party.
The trust factor is something everyone has with them. Are they manuevering for power and status?
From what I have read no one know's how to negotiate with them.
Right now, they are engaged in buy, sell, or trade.
I think the right term is Transactional Leadership.
Yankee Traders like we were two centuries ago.
If you want to do business with them you have too strive for balance.
Remember, they have a lot of nuclear warheads.
To push them aside would be forsaking a possible opportunity to integrate them into the world system.
The key is to understand their psychology and negotiating style.
A League of Democracies of 100 countries is something of a stretch.
Too many clashing interests.
It would seem to me in an era of relationships between countries rather than alliances that Otto Von Bismarck is needed.
Bismarck ran Germany for 20 years and kept the peace in Europe during that time.
The Great Wire Puller in Berlin who developed the concepts of Realpolitik and Mutual Antagonisms.
Two principles that live to this day among other countries in their international relations (Realpolitik mainly).
