The Space Shuttle, Moon, and Mars

I don't know how much the space shuttles cost to maintain and build, but it would seem to be a good bet that to build a new fleet of shuttles would be less expensive than designing, building, and testing some new contraption.

We've used B-52s in the air force for the last 50 years.

My question could be this.  Why can't we do the same with Space Shuttles?

Yes, I say build new ones with the same blueprints and new technology.

Its probably cheaper all around and we know how the technology work's.

It might be necessary to give it capabilities to go to the moon and onto mars, but that's in the distant future.

Finally, there are natural resources on the moon that could import to Earth.

That was on George Norry's show several weeks ago.

In order to do space travel, we have to convince Congress that it is economical and there is a return on investment.

I say colonize the moon and send an expedition to Mars.
