The End of the Iraq War

Let's say Bush won't end the Iraq War prior tohis departure from office.

Let's say the Iraqis won't settle their differences prior to Bush's retirement.

Let's say the suppliers of the insurgents won't stop, until we leave Iraq.

A problem with three forces at work against us.

In 1969, Nixon faced the Soviet Union, China, and Vietnam.

In 1953, Eisenhower faced Korea, China, and the Soviet Union.

In 2009, we face Iraq, Iran, and Saudi Arabia.

Different region, but the same triangle.

Inside Iraq, we face the Kurds who are our friends, the Sunnis, and the Shiites.

Kurdish Iraq is a self-governing and economically prosperous nation.

The Kurds want their independence, but Syria, Iran, and Turkey become nervous due to the fact that they each have Kurdish minorities within their borders.

A Semi-Sovereign Kurdish Nation created outside the former nation of Iraq would be the compromise.

The Sunni Triangle will not be stabilized because they fear the Shiite Arab Majority.

So I think a policy of containment of this area is called for at least in the short run.  The analogy is Lebanon.

The Shiite Arabs want to join up with Iran and vice wersa.

That salvage's the oil and we get Iran to take over the policing of the area.

The Saudis have been building a fence along the border with Iraq for the last 18 months.

Personally, I lay a mine field, put up barbed wired fences, dig ditches, and release dogs into a neutral zone area.

Muslims don't like dogs.

As for Saudi Arabia and Iran.

The Saudis are the Communist Russia of the Iraq War and Iran is the China.

If and when Saudi Arabia goes off in revolution they will have a radical government and they will take the entire Arabian Pennisula with them.

Iran is the only country in the region close enough and powerful enough to act as a counter balance to the new Saudi Arabia.

Egypt is on the other side of the red sea and may be of good use as an ally.
